People across Nigeria went to the polls in the presidential and national assembly elections on February 23.
The events of the day were mainly captured on social media and the reactions are as varied as people who voted.
Presidential candidates cast their votes
On election day, president Muhammadu Buhari was one of the first persons to vote. He voted in Polling unit around 8.03 am.
There were hilarious reactions to his voting when he took a peek at his wife’s ballot paper. Social media was abuzz as many alleged that he was not sure his wife voted for him.
Atiku also voted at his polling booth in Adamawa State.
Fela Durotoye said he has voted for the future in the same polling unit as Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
A jubilant Durotoye said Nigerian youths should stand up and their country back.
Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Kingsley Moghalu, after initial protestations, said he voted in his ward in Anambra.
He earlier said there were hitches at his polling unit due to the late arrival of materials and malfunctioning equipment.
Celebrities also voted
Nigerian celebrities did not just vote, they helped organise voters in order to ensure peaceful polls.
From singers to actors and actresses, Nigerian entertainers were not left out. Many of them showed their inked fingers.

Delays and violence
People complained of delay in polling units opening late.
There were also reports of violence, deaths and abductions in many locations.
INEC Extends the poll in some areas
In areas where materials and officials arrived late, INEC announced that voting will be extended.
Accredited observers were across the country
From the African Union, The EU, the UK, the U.S. local and international observers, many came to monitor elections in Africa’s biggest economy.
First-time voters share their experiences
Whether they those who attained the voting age for the first time or those who were of age but could not vote, first voters were elated to have been part of the process.
The elated first-timers were eager to show off their inked fingers and voters’ cards.
