Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has attributed his team’s elimination by Paris Saint-Germain in this season’s UEFA Champions League semi-final to the French outfit’s defensive solidity.

The Belgian tactician stated this on Wednesday night while addressing reporters during his post-match interview.

Kompany watched as the Bavarians drew 1-1 with the Parisians in the Champions League semi-final second-leg tie at the Allianz Arena.

PSG took their first chance after only three minutes when Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s brilliant run and cross set up Ousmane Dembele for a thumping finish.

Harry Kane equalised with his 55th goal of the season for Bayern deep into stoppage time, but it provided little consolation on a night of bitter disappointment for the Bundesliga giants.

Following the stalemate, Kompany’s side crashed out of the competition following a 6-5 aggregate defeat, having lost 5-4 in the first leg in Paris.

Addressing journalists after the game, Kompany said Luis Enrique’s side defended well against Bayern Munich.

He added that the visitors were active during the encounter and ensured the German side didn’t convert their chances in front of goal.

He said, “It’s obviously tough to take; we lost narrowly. We matched PSG; these games are decided by small details.”

Kompany added, “Our first half was good; I felt that we were the better team and often got into the areas where we are dangerous, but PSG defended the crosses very well.

“They were very active. Although we got into dangerous situations, they made sure we didn’t get the final shot off. The Champions League is over for us for now.”
