The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government a two-week ultimatum to meet its demands or face a strike.
The association issued the warning on Sunday, 27 September 2026, after its 46th Annual General Meeting held in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
According to NARD President, Dr Emmanuel Ogar, who read out the resolutions, the government had been slow to implement agreements already reached with the association.

The doctors went on to add that despite several meetings and assurances, many of the issues affecting their work—including salaries, promotions, allowances, heavy workload, shortage of personnel, and general welfare—had remained unresolved.
They demanded immediate action on these outstanding issues and called for “the immediate implementation of agreements reached with the Federal Government, particularly those relating to improved conditions of service and professional development.”
NARD warned that if nothing were done within two weeks, peace in the health sector could be disrupted.
The resolution added, “The government concluded the review of existing remuneration and professional salary structures for doctors, saying the current framework no longer adequately reflected prevailing economic realities.”
