Singer, songwriter, and actress Tiwa Savage has attributed her smooth transition from the R&B genre to Afrobeats—following her return to Nigeria in 2012—to ace music executive and record label owner, Don Jazzy.

The ‘Kele Kele Love’ crooner shared this during a recent interview with TVC, where she revealed that the decision was initially challenging.

Inspired by the growth of the Nigerian music industry, Savage—who started her career abroad as a backup singer for American artists such as George Michael and Mary J. Blige—moved back to Nigeria and signed with Don Jazzy’s label, Mavin Records.

Speaking during her latest interview, Savage credited her seamless transition to her former boss, stating that he made her believe “talent is unlimited”.

She further explained that the Mavin boss convinced her she could achieve anything if she remained focused.

Revisiting her relocation to Nigeria, the mother of one said: “It was difficult for me to transition from R&B to street sounds. But when I was at Mavin Records, Don Jazzy opened my mind to so many different things. He made me believe that talent was not limited, that I could do anything if I really focused on it.
