Iran demands UN condemns Iran over alleged war crime
Islamic Republic of Iran Ambassador, Gholamhossein Darzi, has called on the United Nations to condemn the United States Of America for what he described as “appalling and egregious war crime ” on Iran.
He said this in a statement issued to the UN Secretary‑General António Guterres and the president of the Security council on September 2, 2026.
This followed the attack carried out by US Forces, on September 1, 2026, on a residential house in the city of Kuhestak in Sirik, Hormozgan Province, Iran while a wedding ceremony was being held there. According to the claims presented in the letter, four civilians were killed, including a four-year-old child, with over 70 injured.
Darzi stressed that deliberately targeting civilians and children constitutes a violation of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, particularly citing Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the Charter of the United Nations.
He further alleged, in the letter, that since the start of U.S. large-scale and “unwarranted” attacks against Iran on February 28, 2026, civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, airports, residential areas, bridges, roads, and railway facilities, have been repeatedly targeted.
To reinforce his point, he referenced the attack the U.S. armed forces launched on an elementary school in Minab, Hormozgan Province on 28 February 2026, which resulted in the mass killing and injury of children, teachers, and other civilians. More than 168 students, predominantly girls aged seven to twelve, together with teachers and school staff, were killed, while 110 others were injured. The school was also destroyed in the missile attack.
Darzi condemned the attribution of such acts as “collateral damage”, arguing that these attacks followed a pattern of war crimes against the Islamic Republic Of Iran.
In response to this crime, he stated that the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran have exercised its inherent right of self-defence under Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations and undertaken defensive attacks against United States military bases in the region used to launch the attacks.
He reiterated his calls on the UN Secretary General and President of the Security council to discharge their responsibilities. He insisted that they hold the U.S responsible for its acts of aggression against Iran and demand it immediately cease all operations of attacks against the country.
“Call upon the United States to immediately cease and bring to an end its acts of aggression, and all unlawful and unilateral coercive measures, targeting innocent civilians, and to comply fully and without exception with its obligations under international humanitarian law”
Finally, he stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to take all necessary and proportionate measures to protect its people, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and to respond firmly to any act of military aggression, if the U.S. continues. This, he argues, is in conformity with the Charter of the United Nations, and applicable international law.
