The Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, CON, has passed away at the age of 83.
His death was announced on Thursday in a statement by the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami.
The monarch, who spent more than four decades on the throne, reportedly died on Thursday afternoon at a hospital in Egypt, according to an official statement.

Pantami described the late emir as a distinguished scholar, a beacon of wisdom, and a father to all, saying he dedicated his life to the service of his people, the promotion of peace and education, and the preservation of cultural values.
“On behalf of myself and my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Gumel Emirate Council, His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, the Government and good people of Jigawa State, and the entire nation,” he stated.
Pantami prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul, and that the family and people of Gumel and Jigawa State would have the strength to bear the loss.
