Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has frowned upon the violent attacks on members and coordinators of his party and the Obidient Movement in Delta State, insisting the party will not tolerate such frequent attacks anymore.

He made this known on Saturday, 7 November, in a now-trending post he shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.

Supporters of the NDC and presidential candidate Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, were attacked in separate incidents between Friday and Saturday in Effurun, Uvwie LGA, and Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

During the NDC “One Million-Man March” and political rally in Asaba on Saturday, suspected political thugs allegedly attacked the Delta State Deputy Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Comrade Noah, and stabbed him with daggers.

Apart from this, several other movement members and NDC members were severely beaten or injured, and vehicles belonging to supporters were vandalised.

In another incident at Obiaruku, in Ndokwa West LGA of the state, an official NDC campaign banner tagged “NIGERIA WILL BE” located at the Umuebu Road Junction was pulled down and torn apart.

Reacting to the attacks, Obi said he was profoundly saddened and deeply disturbed by the reports of violence directed at his coordinators, supporters, and fellow citizens.

”I unequivocally condemn the attacks against our coordinators, supporters, and fellow citizens who were merely exercising their democratic rights. We won’t take this anymore,” Obi said.

According to him, political violence has no place in a democracy and can never be justified.

He added that it is troubling that at a time when Nigeria urgently needs responsible leadership, some individuals still believe that political influence can be secured through thuggery, fear, and violence.

The former Anambra State governor urged the government and security agencies to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation into the attacks.
