Former Newcastle and Manchester United defender, Danny Simpson, has advised Arsenal coach, Mikel Arteta to drop Gabriel Martinelli from his starting line up, adding that he won’t win the Premier League if the Brazilian remains a regular starter.

He made this known recently while appearing as a guest on ‘Beyond the Four’ podcast.

Martinelli, who joined Arsenal in 2019, has not met the expectations of many Arsenal fans.

He managed 16 goal contributions across competitions for Mikel Arteta’s team last season.

He was, however, an unused substitute during Arsenal’su 5-0 annihilation of Leeds at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in five years under Arteta, Arsenal have come second in the Premier League table thrice, losing the 2024-25 season to Liverpool.

While advising the Spanish tactician on how he can finally lift the league trophy, Simpson warned that the Gunners may fail again this season if they keep depending on the Brazilian winger.

He went on to advise Arteta to put his faith in Arsenal’s latest signing, Eberechi Eze.

He said, “I’ve been saying the last two years, I love him as a player, he’s direct, Martinelli, but I just didn’t think they would win the league with just him out there. Now obviously Eze – top, top, top player.”
