Nigerian singer and songwriter Daniel Etiese Benson, popularly known as BNXN, has advised American rapper Joseph Antonio Cartagena (aka Fat Joe) to “educate” himself following the rapper’s recent controversial claims regarding the Afrobeats genre.
The singer fired back at the 55-year-old artist in a series of posts shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page.
BNXN was reacting to reports that Fat Joe, during an episode of the Joe And Jada podcast, claimed that Afrobeats originated in Jamaica.
Speaking on the show, Fat Joe stated: “Jamaica started Afrobeats. Even though everything comes from Africa.”

In addition to his comments on the genre’s origins, Fat Joe claimed he influenced BNXN’s decision to change his stage name from “Buju” out of respect for Jamaican dancehall legend Buju Banton.
Reacting to these assertions, BNXN urged the American rapper to conduct thorough research on African music before speaking publicly.
He didn’t stop at corrections, however; he went on to mock the rapper’s appearance, suggesting that his “hatred” for the genre was taking a physical toll.
BNXN wrote: “The hate in your heart and your misinformation about African music and its artists is why your chromosomes are all f**ked up.
“Educate yourself bozo @fatjoe.”
