Peter Obi and Nasir El-Rufai have not formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) because they are given time to complete some electoral processes in their current parties, Bolaji Abdullahi has clarified.
The ADC spokesperson reassured the public that both Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and El-Rufai, who belongs to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), are committed to the ADC coalition and would formally join it after completing those processes.
“They were given the opportunity to finalise pending elections, including by-elections and the selection of governorship candidates within their legacy parties,” Abdullahi stressed at the weekend.
He reiterated that the coalition has no hidden agenda or preferred candidate, and every aspirant will have a fair shot at the race for the ADC presidential ticket.
He also insisted that the ADC does not have any legal issue that can be exploited by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to scuttle it.
“We are confident in the legality of every step we have taken. We made sure we closed all loopholes the ruling party might try to use against us.”
