Madueke became the eighth player to cross the London divide to the Emirates during Arteta’s time.

The controversial transfer was met with a backlash from Gunners supporters, who were not impressed by Raheem Sterling, the last player to arrive from Chelsea.

Arteta, however, defended his decision, saying Chelsea probably have a lot of players who are good and fit into his plans.

He added that where a footballer plies his trade isn’t part of his considerations while signing players.

Asked why he likes singing players from Chelsea, he said: “Probably because they have some great players, and a lot of players.

“We try to focus on the players we want to sign regardless of the club.

“With Noni, very excited. He needs a break now but he will be with us soon showing what is going to bring to the team.”
