FCID ignores IGP’s directive on widow’s petition as RULAAC alleges interference

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has urged the Inspector-General of Police Tunji Rilwan Disu to enforce his directive of 17 April 2026 which requires the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, to conclude investigation into complaints by Mrs. Ebere Chibueze and submit a report.

A statement by RULAAC’s Executive Director Okechukwu Nwanguma explained that Mrs. Chibueze’s complaints concern alleged assaults, threats, false accusations, detention and interference with access to business documents needed to fund her late husband’s medical treatment. She also alleged the arrest and public humiliation of her elderly mother during burial preparations, and continuing threats against family members.

According to the widow and her solicitor, Vincent Okafor Esq., the continued retention of the original case file at FCID Abuja has frustrated compliance with the IGP’s directive, especially because of interference by senior police personnel.

RULAAC called on the IGP to ensure the documented return of the complete original case file to FCID Alagbon and obtain an explanation for its reported retention in Abuja.

It also urged the IGP for a direct, prompt, impartial completion of the investigation and to communicate the outcome to the family.

The organisation requested for an independent investigation of the alleged interference and police misconduct, and protection of the complainant, her family and witnesses, preserve relevant evidence, and ensure accountability for any wrongdoing established.

RULAAC says more than six months after the IGP’s directive, the family should not still be pursuing the movement of a case file.
