Access Bank pays tribute to Herbert Wigwe, family one year after helicopter crash

Access Bank has paid tribute to the former chief executive officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, and their son Chizi on the first anniversary of their deaths.

The Wigwes were among six victims who died when their helicopter crashed near the Mojave Desert in California, United States on February 9, 2024.

The tragic accident sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s business and financial sectors, as Wigwe was widely regarded as one of the country’s most influential banking leaders.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Access Bank honoured their memory, reflecting on the profound impact they had on the institution and the wider community.

The post read, “Today marks one year since the world stood still for us. On this day, we lost Herbert, Doreen, and Chizi—three remarkable souls who left an indelible mark on our lives and our hearts.

“One year later, we still feel the void, but we also feel the weight of their legacy—one that challenges us to be better, do better, and strive for greatness.

“As we reflect, we carry forward the values they instilled and honour their memories by walking the path they paved for us. Forever in our hearts.”

Friends, family, business associates and well-wishers have gathered at Eko Hotel, Lagos to honour the memory of the deceased.
