English tactician and former Chelsea defender, John Terry, has tipped either France or Spain to lift this year’s World Cup trophy, saying the two European nations have a really “good chance”.
The Blues legend made the prediction recently while discussing the favourites to win the 2026 tournament on TimesLIVE.
Analysing the competition, Terry said he picked France and Spain ahead of his country, England, because of the quality of players they have in their respective squads.
He singled out Didier Deschamps’ team as a complete side which boasts a good attack, midfield and defence.

He further noted that France have a lot of Paris Saint-Germain players who recently won the Champions League trophy for the second consecutive time.
Terry said: “I’m going to have to go with France. I think their strength in depth and the attacking options they have—Doue, Olise, Mbappe, Dembele, Cherki—it’s endless.
“They are good defensively, their midfield is very good. I think they have such a good squad, and it feels like they are high on confidence at the moment as well.
“They have got PSG players that have just come off the back of a big European win as well.
“I hope I’m wrong, I hope it is England, but I just think France and Spain have a really good chance [to win the World Cup].”
