Everton manager David Moyes has admitted that his players defended poorly for the second goal they conceded, after they threw away a lead to draw 3-3 against Manchester City in a Premier League fixture on Monday night.

The Scottish tactician made this known while speaking to Sky Sports during his post-match interview at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton, after conceding the opening goal, had fought back to lead 3-1 by the 73rd minute, thanks to a brace from Thierno Barry and a goal from Jake O’Brien.

However, Moyes’ side ended up sharing the points following two late goals from Erling Haaland and Jérémy Doku.

Addressing journalists after the encounter, Moyes traced his team’s failure to take all three points back to how they defended the goal scored by Haaland.

According to him, the Toffees simply didn’t do enough to see the game out once they were 3-1 up.

“We let ourselves down because we defended the second goal so poorly. We were hugely outplayed in the first half,” Moyes said.

He added: “The players made a great effort to get us back into the game, and really, when we got to 3-1, we should have been doing enough to see it out.”
