Former President Olusegun Obasanjo played the role of senior prefect during a walk to commemorate the centenary anniversary of his Alma Mater, Baptist Boys’ High School.
Obasanjo, who will be 86 on March 5, was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State in 1937.
He joined current and alumni students of his Alma Mater yesterday to walk in celebration of the school’s centenary anniversary.
Obasanjo attended Baptist Boys’ High School in Abeokuta and later worked as a teacher.
According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Obasanjo joined the army in 1958 because he couldn’t afford a college education. He received his officer training in England.
Obasanjo rose quickly through the army ranks. During the Biafra conflict (1967–70) he was appointed to head a commando division that was stationed at the Biafran front in the southeast. The conflict ended when Biafran forces surrendered to him in January 1970.

The Encyclopedia describes Obasanjo as a statesman and diplomat, who was the first military ruler in Africa to hand over power to a civilian government. Recall that Obasanjo served as Nigeria’s military ruler between 1976 and 79. He handed over power to the democratically elected President Shehu Shagari.
Obasanjo later became a civilian elected president and served between 1999 and 2007.
