Tunisia have appointed French tactician Hervé Renard as their new head coach until the conclusion of their matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, currently being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The development was made known on Tuesday by the Tunisian Football Federation following the sacking of former coach Sabri Lamouchi.
The 54-year-old was fired just hours after Tunisia’s 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening Group F fixture on Monday.
According to the North African nation’s FA, Renard will arrive in Mexico on Tuesday and will take charge of their training session.
The ex-Sochaux manager was sacked by Saudi Arabia in April, bringing his second stint with the national team to an end.
He was dismissed from the role after leading them to qualification for the current edition of the tournament and was succeeded by Greek coach Georgios Donis.
Renard previously coached France at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, as well as Zambia and Ivory Coast at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012 and 2015 respectively.
His latest appointment will mark his third consecutive men’s World Cup, having previously managed Morocco at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
