Some people still think I visited Tinubu for personal gain – Tunde Bakare

The Serving Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has dismissed speculations that his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu was motivated by personal ambition or political gain.
Bakare, who was a contestant in the 2023 All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary, met with the president last week at the State House—a move that stirred public speculation about possible alignment or pursuit of appointments.
However, addressing his congregation during a recent sermon, Bakare made it clear that his visit was driven purely by national interest.

“Some people still think he has gone there to settle himself. In what way have I settled myself before? What they gave me, I returned. What am I looking for?” he said, in an apparent rebuke of his critics.
Speaking to journalists after the closed-door meeting with President Tinubu, Bakare explained that his conversation with the number one citizen focused on strategies for national development and how to improve the country’s fortunes.
“It’s not about just reservations. It’s about how the country will go well. My personal vision is to see a nation that works in my lifetime,” he said.
Bakare also disclosed that he had made certain recommendations to the president but left it entirely to him to decide whether or not to act on them.
