British pundit and former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has backed his former team to inflict another defeat on Manchester City when they visit St James’ Park for the fifth round of the FA Cup on Saturday night.

The Betfair ambassador and highest goalscorer in Premier League history made the prediction when analysing the weekend’s cup fixtures for Metro.

Speaking on the game, he said that although the match between Newcastle and Man City will be tight, he expects the Magpies to eventually beat Pep Guardiola’s side.

Shearer said: “It’ll be tight, it always is, but I think Newcastle might have enough to get through. Prediction – Newcastle.”

The England legend further said that Championship side Mansfield Town will suffer a home loss to league leaders Arsenal, who are likely to field a weaker team.

“I guess Mikel Arteta will make changes, but I even think with the changes that come in, they’ll still have the quality. I don’t see a shock at Mansfield; no, I think Arsenal will go through with ease. Prediction – Arsenal,” he added.

Shearer also said he expects West London club Chelsea to get the better of Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground when they clash.

He concluded: “It’ll be absolutely rocking on Saturday at the Racecourse Ground. I think whatever team he puts out, they’ll still have enough to beat Wrexham. Prediction – Chelsea.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool booked their place in the next round of the FA Cup on Friday night after defeating Wolves at Molineux.
