Keane rejected the idea despite Carrick leading United back into the Champions League, with the team set to finish in third place in the Premier League.

Irish commentator and former Manchester United captain, Roy Keane, has said that appointing Michael Carrick on a permanent basis will favour Arsenal and Manchester City.
He made this known recently while speaking on the popular video podcast, ‘Stick to Football’, an original series produced by The Overlap.
Carrick, a former midfielder with the Red Devils, was brought in on an interim basis in January this year after United decided to part ways with Portuguese tactician, Ruben Amorim.

Since then, the 44-year-old Englishman has led the Manchester outfit back into the Champions League, with the team set to finish in third place in the Premier League.
Despite this, Keane is still not convinced Carrick is the man to lead the team forward, insisting rival managers such as Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola won’t be worried by the decision.
Speaking on the show, he said: “If you are Pep Guardiola or Mikel Arteta and you are on holiday, sitting on your yachts, and you see Michael Carrick being announced as Manchester United manager, do you think you will become fearful of him?”
