Former England striker and football pundit Wayne Rooney has expressed doubt over Manchester United’s ability to mount an English Premier League (EPL) title charge next season.
Speaking on talkSPORT recently, he urged the club’s supporters to lower their expectations regarding the possibility of lifting the trophy.
After a sluggish start to the season, Michael Carrick ensured the Red Devils won 12 of their remaining 17 matches, finishing third in the table and securing UEFA Champions League (UCL) football.
Following this feat, United’s management confirmed that the English tactician will continue in charge of the team as the permanent manager, having signed a long-term contract.

Speaking on the possibility of the red half of Manchester lifting the EPL trophy for the first time in 14 years, Rooney argued that they are still a long way off challenging for the top prize.
However, he praised Carrick for leading the club to a third-place finish and Champions League qualification.
“We all want them to win the league, but you have to be realistic and ask: are they going to win the league? Are they going to win the Champions League?” Rooney said.
The United legend added: “I think it’s going to be very difficult, but it’s about trying to show improvement.”
