Spanish midfielder Rodrigo Hernández Cascante, popularly known as Rodri, is set to undergo a medical at Barcelona after Manchester City and the La Liga giants agreed a fee.
This was disclosed on Monday by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
City had been trying to convince the defensive midfielder to stay and sign a new contract, but the player made it clear he preferred a move back to Spain this summer, despite having one year left on his current deal.
While giving an update on the saga, Romano said the Spain captain will now travel on Monday for a medical in a bid to finalise his transfer to Barcelona.
Speaking via his official X account, he wrote: “Rodri has authorisation to fly to Barcelona today, Monday, ahead of the move being completed.
“Medical booked by Barcelona and Rodri will sign a four-year deal until June 2030 this week.
“Fee worth €60m fixed, €6m easy add-ons and €10m difficult add-ons.”
Prior to this, Romano had reported that Man City had agreed to sell the 30-year-old to Barça following weeks of negotiations.
In the earlier post, the Italian journalist wrote: “Deal agreed for Spanish midfielder to join Barça from Man City, all done for the former Ballon d’Or winner.
”Green light from Man City to last Barcelona bid.”
Rodri has made 196 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions since 2019, scoring 23 goals.
Having recently guided Spain to World Cup glory, he is seen by Hansi Flick as a key addition to bolster the squad following their La Liga title win this year.
