Portable escapes death after brake failure on eve of child’s naming ceremony

Portable revealed that after experiencing brake failure, he drove his car into a ditch to avoid colliding with another vehicle.

Nigerian street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, better known as Portable, recently survived a single-vehicle accident on the eve of his newborn baby’s naming ceremony.

The controversial singer shared the news in a now-trending video posted to his official Instagram page.

According to the “Zazu” crooner, the incident occurred on Thursday night in Ogun State following a brake failure.

Providing further details, the 32-year-old artist explained that he escaped death by steering his car into a ditch to avoid an oncoming vehicle.

Speaking in the clip, Portable said: “My fans, join me in thanking God. I was just driving out this evening when the accident happened.

“I am fine; I came out unhurt. I suddenly realised that the brakes had failed. My people have arrived here [at the scene]; I thank God they are not here to collect my corpse.

“I have already bought two cows for my son’s naming ceremony. Thank God the accident didn’t happen while a trailer was passing on the road.”

She reportedly gave birth on Friday, 1 May 2026, during her husband’s celebrity boxing match against online streamer Carter Efe.
