Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has won a fresh four-year term to lead the state after defeating his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His victory was confirmed in Osogbo early on Sunday after the Returning Officer for the Osun governorship election, Joshua Ogunwole, announced the results at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Collation Centre in the state.
According to him, Governor Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to emerge as the winner of the keenly contested exercise.
Oyebamiji of the APC came second with a total vote count of 444,815. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was a distant third, having received 17,180 votes.
“For that, Adeleke Ademola Jackson of the Accord Party, having satisfied the requirement of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is hereby returned elected,” he said.
Ogunwole added that 1,005,800 votes were cast in the election, which was held across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, while 985,079 valid votes were recorded. The Returning Officer said 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the poll.

Following the declaration of the incumbent as the winner of the keenly contested gubernatorial poll, jubilation erupted in Osogbo, the state capital.
A video from the city, which is now trending, showed a large crowd gathered on the road, celebrating Adeleke’s second-term victory.
Supporters were seen surrounding vehicles as they celebrated the outcome of the election.
“Imole! Imole!” the crowd could be heard chanting in the video.
“The money is wasted, ₦50,000 is wasted,” they chanted further.
