Orumen flays Super Eagles, tags match ‘most dreadful, shambolic, embarrassing’

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Committee member Godwin Dudu Orumen has condemned the Super Eagles’ heavy defeat to Guinea-Bissau in their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Tuesday, describing the performance as “dreadful and embarrassing.”
Orumen, a lawyer, football analyst and commentator, said he initially had no intention of commenting publicly on the match but was compelled to speak after receiving numerous calls and messages from friends and followers of his flagship football programme. The former NFF technical committee member expressed disbelief at the manner in which Nigeria performed, questioning how the Super Eagles could produce such a lethargic display in an important AFCON qualifier.
“A most dreadful and embarrassing performance by the Super Eagles,” Orumen wrote.
“Everyone is incensed by the shambolic football the Super Eagles played in that very difficult-to-understand game, how and why they were so poor.”
To underline the depth of the disappointment among supporters, Orumen also quoted his former university classmate, Honourable Patrick Obahiagbon, whose reaction captured the frustration surrounding the defeat.
Obahiagbon described the result as a “melancholic and lachrymose calamity” and a “scandalous and monumental existential betrayal,” particularly because the defeat came against Guinea-Bissau.
Orumen believes the performance has raised serious questions about the current state of the national team and what went wrong on the day.
“The big question is what happened, what went wrong, how did our players put on such a lethargic show and is lightning going to strike three times in one spot?” he asked.
