Ondo set to host FG, Southwest leaders for citizen government engagement summit

The Ondo State Government in partnership with the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission and the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, is set to host the maiden Federal Government/Southwest Citizen-Government Engagement Summit in Akure.
The two-day summit, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, October 29–30, 2025, will hold at the International Conference Centre (The Dome), Akure, with the theme “Strengthening Democracy Through Dialogue: Assessing Progress, Charting the Future.”
According to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Taiwo Fasoranti, preparations have been concluded to receive delegates from across the six states of the Southwest.
The Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, will serve as the Chief Host, while the summit will also draw participation from Southwest governors, ministers, federal appointees, legislators, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, youth and student bodies, women groups, and private sector stakeholders.
Dr. Fasoranti further explained that the summit will serve as a robust platform for citizens and government representatives to engage in meaningful discussions on governance, development, and accountability.
The event will feature six thematic sessions focusing on: Fiscal Reforms and National Planning, Economic Development and Job Creation Social Services and Social Development, Infrastructure and Transportation, Human Capital Development, and Security and Governance
The engagement is expected to strengthen collaboration between citizens and government, deepen democratic governance, and promote sustainable development across the Southwest region.
