Flood victims in Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State have received succour as the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, distributed assorted food and essential materials to affected communities. The intervention was facilitated by the member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Afam Victor Ogene, following a distress report he submitted to the Federal Government.
The relief items, released by the Federal Government in response to Hon. Ogene’s appeal, included 400 bags of 25kg rice, 400 bags of 25kg beans, 200 cartons of spaghetti, 50 cartons of vegetable oil, and 50 cartons of Maggi cubes.

Beneficiary communities in Ogbaru LGA are Ossomala, Obeagwe, Akili-Ogidi, Ogwuikpele, Ogwuanocha, and Umunankwo.

The symbolic flag-off of the distribution was performed on Saturday at Iyiowa-Odekpe by the Head of Operations, NEMA Enugu Zonal Office, Mrs. Priscilla Madukwe, alongside an official of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and the Coordinator of the State and Ogbaru LGA Emergency Management Committee, Hon. Nnamdi Esimai.
Mrs. Madukwe said the distribution followed a direct appeal and distress report by Hon. Ogene to the Federal Government. She noted that a NEMA assessment team, led by her, had earlier visited the flood-ravaged communities to ascertain the level of damage.
According to her, “Hon. Ogene loves you people. He personally facilitated the transportation of these relief materials from Enugu to here. NEMA did not pay for it. You should continue to support him because he is committed to your welfare.”
Some of the beneficiaries at the flag-off included nursing mother Mrs. Nwakonobi Favour and physically challenged Mr. Oliver Ozoma.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Favour said her home and belongings were submerged, while Mr. Ozoma stated that he lost his farm crops including yam, cassava, and potatoes to the flood.
Other beneficiaries, including Mr. Oliver Inuchukwu and Uchechukwu Igwe of Ogwuikpele community, commended Hon. Ogene for his compassion and effective representation.
“This is the second time Hon. Afam Ogene is bringing NEMA to us since he got to the National Assembly. We are praying God to bless him. We will ensure he returns to the House of Representatives in 2027,” Mr. Inuchukwu said.
In his address, Hon. Ogene directed that the items be handed over to community leaders for equitable distribution.
“These relief materials are for everyone in the community. It is not for any political party. It is about humanity. Please ensure they are shared fairly using your community’s agreed formula,” he charged.
