The Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Ayodele Akande, alongside the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has commended the appointment of Segun Odusanya as the new Head of Service (HoS), describing it as well deserved.
Akande, in a congratulatory message, lauded Odusanya’s elevation, noting that it reflects his years of dedication, competence, and leadership within the state’s civil service.
He also expressed appreciation to the state governor for what he described as a thoughtful and merit-based decision.
“Your appointment as Head of Service is well deserved. It is a recognition of your commitment and contributions to public service,” Akande stated, while wishing the new HoS a successful tenure.
Similarly, the NUJ in Ondo State applauded the choice of Odusanya, who succeeds the retired Bayo Philips, describing him as a seasoned administrator and thoroughbred bureaucrat capable of driving meaningful reforms in the civil service.
In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, and Secretary, Olaoluwa Meshack, the union commended the state government for sustaining the tradition of seniority and merit in appointing the Head of Service.
The union expressed confidence that Odusanya would deploy his vast experience to reposition the state’s public service through innovative and impactful initiatives.
However, the NUJ urged the government to address what it described as the marginalisation of qualified journalists in the state civil service. It called for the appointment of eligible directors from the Ministry of Information and the OSRC/Orange FM Media Group as permanent secretaries.
The body also appealed to the new Head of Service to prioritise reforms that would strengthen efficiency and productivity in the civil service, while ensuring inclusiveness across professional groups.
In addition, the union appreciated the governor for assenting to the law establishing the Ondo State Government Printing and Publishing Corporation, noting that the move would enhance the welfare and protection of journalists working with The Hope Newspaper.
While congratulating Odusanya on his new role, the NUJ urged him to ensure the timely implementation of the law establishing the corporation.
Odusanya’s appointment took effect following the retirement of his predecessor, marking a transition the stakeholders believe will usher in renewed vigour in the state’s public service.
