ISWAP top finance commander surrenders to troops in Borno with two sons
A senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), has surrendered to troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Borno State.
The surrender occurred on Saturday along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis of the Gamboru–Wulgo main supply route, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters OPHK, Capt. Mohammed Goni.
The insurgent, who came in with two of his male children, laid down arms to troops of the 3rd Battalion under the 24th Task Force Brigade.
Preliminary profiling identified him as the Chief Finance Operative of the ISWAP enclave in Jubillaram, a position in which he managed the group’s logistics and financial administration.
Items recovered from him include one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and ₦40,000 cash.
Capt. Goni attributed the surrender to sustained land and air operations targeting terrorist enclaves across the region.
“The surrender of such a key finance operative represents another significant setback for ISWAP,” he said. “Coupled with the increasing number of recent surrenders, this development confirms deepening disillusionment within terrorist ranks and points to an accelerating wave of defections.”
Military authorities disclosed that about 46 terrorists and their family members have surrendered voluntarily in recent days amid mounting operational pressure.
The suspect and his children are currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to obtain actionable intelligence for ongoing operations.
The Theatre Command has reiterated its call on remaining insurgents to lay down arms and take advantage of the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives. It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
