Nobel Peace Prize: Sad Trump says Norway’s reputation stained for snubbing him

U.S. President Donald Trump has taken to social media to express his displeasure with Norway over his failure to receive the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, saying the decision leaves an “indelible stain” on the country.
On October 9, 2026, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, a South African jurist and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in recognition of her contributions to promote peace and international law.
The decision followed thorough discussions and assessments by the committee, who is responsible for selecting the laureates of the award.
However, Trump criticised the decision during a campaign rally, describing it as “disgraceful and embarrassing” and arguing that it has left a stain on Norway.
He also questioned the committee’s choice, claiming the award went to someone relatively unknown while insisting that the United States, represented by him, deserved the prize instead.
“The Nobel Peace Prize was given out today to a liberal person who works at the United Nations who nobody has ever heard of. I never heard of this person and I know a lot of people,” Trump said.
His remarks come a year after he publicly expressed his desire to receive the award following the presentation of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Trump has also questioned the credibility of the Nobel Peace Prize, alleging that its reputation has been undermined by what he described as a group of radical ideologues who are anti-democratic and enemies of civilisation.
In a further criticism posted on his Truth Social account, Trump argued that his claimed role in resolving eight conflicts and global economic impact should have earned him the award. He also claimed that he had saved more lives than anyone in history, maintaining his efforts to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
“I settled 8 Wars, with letters being sent from every President and Prime Minister from the countries that I helped to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and I’m about to settle, or win, two more, Iran and Russia/Ukraine. They’re both happening at breakneck speed but, forget them, it’s the 8 that I’ve already settled, any one of which, in particular, Pakistan and India, would be far more than necessary to win the Nobel Prize. In actuality, I should have won 8 Nobel Peace Prizes, not just 1,” Trump wrote.
