The new General Officer Commanding (GOC), 1 Mechanized Division, Nigeria Army, Major General Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi, has assured the Niger State government and its residents that the military would soon end the ongoing banditry in the state.
He said that the Nigerian army was well equipped to flush out the criminals.
The army chief spoke during his visit to the state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, in Minna.
During the visit, Governor Bello expressed confidence that the federal government and security agencies were capable of restoring sanity in the state.
His words:
“We are impressed with the new development and the response from the federal government in addressing security challenges bedevilling Niger State. It is a joint effort though, the state government will do its part and the federal government will do its part also.
“The new GOC and I have met one-on-one and discussed some vital areas and he has assured me that they will do whatever they can to put the situation under control”.
Sani Bello who further pointed out that the local security outfits, especially the vigilante groups were overstretched said, “We are aware of their challenges. They are overwhelmed and over-stretched. I also discussed their issue with the GOC”. While explaining that the GOC just assumed office, Governor Bello assured that the GOC by records has better understanding of the security situation in Niger State and would soon curb the insecurity in the state.
