The National Agency for Foods, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has warned traditional medicine practitioners in the country against administering  herbal drugs that have not been confirmed and approved by the agency on patients.

It also warned the practitioners against advertising their products without obtaining advert permit from the agency, saying it is the duty of the agency to streamline whatever they want to inform the public to avoid giving the public false and misleading information. Ebonyi State Coordinator of the agency, Richard Anichukwu, gave the warning when the practitioners under the aegis of National Association of Traditional Medicine Dealers paid him courtesy call in his office in Abakaliki.

He said that the agency was looking forward for effective collaboration with herbal practitioners to ensure safety of the people.

He pointed out that the collaboration would offer them the opportunity to scrutinize and streamline herbal products produced by the members of the group before giving them to patients. Besides, the group’s Zonal Chairman, Chief Okwudiri Umezurike, said that the visit became imperative following their determination to ensure quality services to the people in line with acceptable standards in the country and world.
