Nigerian Afrobeats star, Abiye Jumbo, better known as Mr 2Kay, has revealed that he parted ways with his record label over the way it handled the ₦10 million compensation received from the management of Eko Hotel and Suites after being assaulted and robbed in the facility by armed men.

He made this known recently while appearing as a guest on a radio programme aired on Yanga FM, Lagos.

About nine years ago, after performing at the Buckwyld ‘n’ Breathless concert at the hotel, Mr 2Kay was beaten, tied up, and robbed at gunpoint in his room by men posing as room service staff.

After the incident, the Lagos State Police Command swung into action and effected the arrest of four suspects — including Burna Boy’s road manager, Joel Kantiok.

During interrogation, all the suspects confessed that they were hired and paid by the ‘Last Last’ hitmaker to teach Mr 2Kay a lesson.

Burna Boy was declared wanted, later turned himself in to the police, and was arraigned at the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in December 2017 on two counts of conspiracy and accessory to armed robbery.

However, Mr 2Kay later withdrew the case from court after Burna Boy tendered an apology. The duo officially put their four-year beef behind them in August 2021, when a viral video showed them hanging out together at a Lagos nightclub.

Recalling what transpired after receiving his compensation during his latest interview, Mr 2Kay claimed his former record label gave him only ₦2 million from the ₦10 million it collected.

“When Burna Boy sent boys to beat me up in Eko Hotel, the boys attacked me and ended up robbing me. Eko Hotel later compensated me with ₦10 million, but my record label gave me only ₦2 million out of it. So, I left the record label,” the singer said.

Mr 2Kay further disclosed that he has, since the incident, become a music executive himself, stressing that the business is lucrative.
