Nigerian rapper Lord of Ajasa becomes US citizen; ID Cabasa, 9ice react

​Lord of Ajasa’s rise as a Yoruba rap artist predated that of later indigenous rap acts such as Dagrin, Olamide, and Reminisce.

​Popular rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, has joined the league of Nigerians who have become United States citizens.

​The singer, who is one of the pioneers of mainstream Yoruba rap, made this known on Wednesday on his official Instagram page while celebrating the milestone.

​Lord of Ajasa emerged as one of the early artists to bring Yoruba rap into mainstream Nigerian music, predating the rise of later indigenous rap acts such as Dagrin, Olamide, and Reminisce.

​His music has remained influential in conversations about the early years of Yoruba hip-hop, with songs including “Le Fenu So,” “Esha Lo Bade,” and “Mai Lo” still remembered by music lovers.

​Sharing photographs and videos of himself while celebrating, the veteran rapper held his American citizenship certificate in one of the clips.

​In another photograph that made the rounds, he was seen posing with his wife alongside the United States flag.

​The development quickly attracted attention and drew congratulatory messages from fellow artists, music producers, and fans in the comment section of his post.

​Music producer and Coded Tunes founder Olumide Ogunade, popularly known as ID Cabasa, wrote, “Congratulations Lord Oshi.”

​Also rejoicing with him, his contemporary, singer Abolore Akande, popularly known as 9ice, wrote, “Congrats apase”.

​Reacting to the well wishes from both singers, Lord of Ajasa thanked them for celebrating with him.
