Kaduna SDP slams El-Rufai, denies merger into ADC coalition

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kaduna State has refuted former governor Nasir El-Rufai’s claim that its political structure has disintegrated and merged with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alliance.
In a statement issued by its State Chairman, Adamu Idris, the party described El-Rufai’s remarks as “spurious and false,” maintaining that the SDP remains active, united and committed to strengthening its role as a credible opposition force.
The party further recalled El-Rufai’s short-lived membership in the SDP, alleging that his presence was marred by factional crises and disruptions. It noted that calm and orderliness returned after his departure.
According to the statement, “Our structures are robust and alive across Kaduna State. We are committed to promoting the true interests of Nigerians and will not be distracted by El-Rufai’s attempts to sow division.”
Taking a swipe at the ex-governor, the SDP described him as “a non-democrat, self-serving desperado, unrepentant bigot and tyranny personified.”

The party reassured its members and supporters that it would continue to champion democratic values and good governance while resisting any effort to weaken its base.
El-Rufai, alongside other opposition figures, had announced over the weekend that the SDP’s entire structure in Kaduna had collapsed into the ADC during a strategy session he chaired.
ADC’s publicity secretary, Darius Kurah, explained that the move was intended to consolidate opposition strength across the state.
