Adeleke, who is the incumbent governor of Osun State, will take on five other candidates in the state’s gubernatorial election scheduled for 15 August 2026.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the national leadership of the Accord Party have explained why they are backing President Bola Tinubu as the party’s candidate in the 2027 presidential election.
The reason for the adoption of the incumbent president and candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesperson for the Adeleke re-election campaign, Pelumi Olajengbesi.
According to him, the governor and the party’s national leadership met on Saturday night in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, and discussed extensively the issues confronting the party.
Olajengbesi added that the party leadership noted it was important for the Tinubu administration to complete all the road and infrastructure projects it has commenced, such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto–Badagry Highway.
He further said discussions about the August governorship election were also held with the party’s leadership, warning against violence, intimidation, electoral manipulation, and the use of security forces against members of the Accord Party in Osun State.
The campaign spokesperson also stated that members of the party’s national leadership present at the meeting included Maxwell Mgbudem, national chairman; Maryam Sale, deputy national chairman; Ajaja Abiola Adebukola, national secretary; Abdulazeez Oyeniyi Salaudeen, national treasurer; Ibe Thankgod, national organising secretary; and Omorogbe Joseph, national publicity secretary; among others.
Also in attendance were the party’s state chairmen from across the country.
Tinubu is up for re-election in 2027. Nigerians and political commentators believe his main challengers are the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, Peter Obi.
