Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has predicted how the presidential candidates for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, will fare in the 2027 general election.
He made his views on the potential outcome of the upcoming election known recently during an appearance as a guest on Symfoni TV.
Atiku and Obi are viewed by many Nigerians as the primary challengers to the incumbent president and candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, in 2027.
Despite their strong performances in 2023, both candidates fell short, finishing second and third respectively in an election where no single candidate managed to secure up to half of the total votes cast.

Discussing the upcoming poll, Lawal argued that former Anambra State governor, Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, have a 70 per cent chance of victory at the ballot box.
He said: “Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso—I’m pairing them—have a 70% chance on my own scale. Peter Obi always tries to do what is right. President Bola Tinubu has 50%.”
The Adamawa State-born politician, however, noted that former vice-president Atiku will lose the 2027 general election.
“Atiku Abubakar will definitely lose the 2027 election. I pray he loses. I’m not the only one who wants this, but he will surely lose.”
Babachir Lawal recently fell out with Atiku and subsequently resigned his membership from the ADC.
Since then, he has repeatedly alleged that the ADC primary election that produced Atiku as its presidential candidate was massively rigged.
