Former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger, Ángel Di María, has appealed to Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, not to quit international football despite La Albiceleste’s World Cup final defeat to Spain last weekend.
He made the plea during an interview with a media outlet while discussing the Inter Miami star’s future following the tournament.
Di María played alongside Messi for several years in the national team, winning both the Copa América and the World Cup together.
There is speculation that the former Barcelona striker might follow the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and retire from international football after the 2026 World Cup.

Speaking after Lionel Scaloni’s side missed out on back-to-back World Cup trophies, Di María described Messi as the best player in history.
He added that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner can still play for the national team for many years to come.
“Yes, Leo should continue for as long as he wants. I think he can keep going for many more years,” Di María told TNT Sports (via Mundo Albiceleste).
“At 39 years old, he’s proven he is still the best in history, with no ceiling,” the former Argentina international added.
