Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has described the former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), who clocked 75 recently as an indispensable leader and adviser whose experience is unequaled.
Bello in a congratulatory message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, said that the former leader remains relevant and steadfast in the Nigerian project.
Bello said, “General Babangida has remained a good man, a father, a role model and a pride not only to Nigerlites but to the entire Nigerians.
“The role he has been playing towards the consistent growth and development of this country in general and Niger State in particular is unquantifiable. His dogged commitment to the corporate existence of Nigeria as one indivisible country has been unique and unrivaled”.
Bello, who appreciated Babangida for his fatherly and advisory role, prayed Allah to continue to bless the General with many more years of robust health for continued distinguished service to the state and nation.
Describing the recent media hype claiming that Babangida was dead as not only sensational, unethical, Bello said that the report of the former President’s death was a calculated attempt to make profit from obviously inaccurate and false reports.
Bello however noted that death was inevitable on any mortal but the fact that it would come when Allah destined it should be a sign for people to leave everything about life and death in God’s hands.
Bello however cautioned journalists to desist from speculative journalism which could do more harm than good to both the author and the medium he/she represents.
He called on the media both conventional and the new (Social Media) not to be sensational and or sentimental in their report but to do so factually and accurately in the interest of the public.
While expressing gratitude to Allah for granting the former military president a life of great accomplishment and fulfilment, Bello prayed Allah to grant Babangida sound health for his remaining years on earth.
