Nigeria’s Super Eagles are set to miss out on the 2026 World Cup after FIFA announced the nations that will participate in this month’s inter-confederation play-off tournament.

The world football’s governing body released the list on Wednesday via an accreditation notice made available to the media.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had earlier lodged a formal protest, alleging that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the decisive tie, which ended 1-1 and went to penalties, where Nigeria lost.

However, the final line-up released to journalists saw FIFA pick the Democratic Republic of Congo as Africa’s representative.

FIFA added: “All of the six teams have now been decided, with Bolivia, DR Congo, Iraq, Jamaica, New Caledonia and Suriname confirmed as qualifiers.”

Since the latest communication does not refer to any amendment to the qualified teams, it strongly indicates that the result of the CAF play-off in Morocco stands.
