Former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Quévin Moisés Cachicote da Rocha de Castro, known simply as Quevin Castro, has passed away after collapsing on Saturday during a match in Portugal.
The death of the 25-year-old was confirmed on Saturday in a statement by the Lisbon Football Association (AFL).
Castro fell to the ground during the first half of third-tier Real Sport Clube’s friendly against top-flight side Estrela da Amadora at the Estádio das Seixas in Lisbon.
He was initially treated by medical staff on the pitch before being taken to hospital, where he later died.
The friendly encounter was subsequently abandoned following the tragedy.

A statement from the association following his demise said Castro “passed away this morning during the pre-season friendly”.
Mourning the player, his club Real Sport Clube said the midfielder was a “beloved member of our sporting family”.
The outfit added: “Quevin Castro was much more than just a player; he was an integral part of our family, leaving an indelible mark on all those who knew him.”
His former club West Bromwich Albion said they were “devastated” by the news of Castro’s death. The Baggies will pay tribute to the midfielder with a period of applause in the 25th minute of their Championship fixture against Burnley on Sunday, as well as wearing black armbands.
Castro joined West Brom in 2021 and made his debut for the club against Arsenal in the EFL Cup.
The former Sporting CP academy product appeared for several sides in England—including Cambridge City, York City, and Notts County—before returning to Portugal last summer.
