Newly promoted Hull City stunned English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United on their return to the top flight after a nine-year absence.
The Red Devils came into the encounter on a high after finishing third and qualifying for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) last season, as well as making new signings in the summer.
However, it was the side who gained promotion through the play-offs last season that opened the scoring in the 17th minute, when Semi Ajayi lashed home after Oli McBurnie’s initial effort was tipped onto the post by United keeper Senne Lammens.

The Nigeria international was later replaced by Paddy McNair in the 63rd minute by Tigers’ coach Sergej Jakirović after sustaining an injury.
Hull City doubled their advantage in the 38th minute when fellow defender and club-record signing Nobel Mendy scored on his debut, heading in a free-kick from Regan Slater.
The home side then held on in the second half to ensure they sealed a well-deserved victory in their first Premier League game since a 7-1 home loss to Tottenham in May 2017.
Following the win, Hull City will travel away to fellow promoted side Coventry City for their next league game, while Man United will hope to get back to winning ways when they host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.
