Congo head coach, Barthelemy Ngatsono, has admitted that Nigeria were better and deserved to beat his team in Tuesday night’s Group D final encounter at the 2024 African Nations Championship.

He made this known after the East Africans lost 2-0 to Home-based Super Eagles in the game played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam.

Congo needed a win to guarantee a place in the quarter-finals but were unable to get past Eric Chelle’s men.

Both teams battled to a 0-0 draw in the first half but Anas Yusuf, and Sikiru Alimi netted for Nigeria in the second period.

Ngatsono’s side crashed out of the CHAN 2024 finals following the defeat.

Reacting to his team’s defeat by the West Africans, Ngatsono said the Home Eagles were better prepared and physically fit.

He also conceded that the Nigerian lads were too strong for his team.

“Nigeria were better prepared, and physically fit than us, so we couldn’t control the ball as well.

“Despite our good preparation before the match, we weren’t good as we planned,” Ngatsono was quoted by CAFonline.
