China reciprocates Trump’s gesture, slams 34% tariff on imports from US

China as part of its retaliatory measures against Trump’s govt, also put export controls on 16 United States

China has reciprocated a recent gesture by the United States President, Donald Trump.

The Asian giants announced its has  impose 34% tariffs on imports from the US hours after President Trump unveiled the same amount against Beijing.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the new China tariffs against the US are expected to go into effect on April 10. 

Speaking on Friday, China’s Ministry of Commerce said the tariff, which matches Trump’s latest increase in duties on Beijing, would be imposed on all imported goods from the United States.

The ministry criticised the US decision, which brings the total US tariffs against the country to 54 per cent, as “inconsistent with international trade rules”.

“This is a typical act of unilateral bullying,” the ministry had reacted earlier.

As part of the retaliatory measures, Beijing has reportedly put export controls on 16 US firms and suspended the eligibility of six US-linked companies from exporting to China.

In addition, China will impose more restrictions on the exports of some rare earth minerals.
