Former federal lawmaker and African Democratic Party (ADC) chieftain Dino Melaye has berated President Bola Tinubu for allegedly avoiding the deteriorating security crisis in the country during his Independence Day nationwide broadcast.
He knocked the president on Friday in a post he shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.
In Nigeria, security challenges have remained a major concern under the Tinubu administration, with incidents of banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes reported in different parts of the country.
On Independence Day, bandits reportedly attacked residents in Kaduna State, killing one person and abducting several others.

However, while criticising Tinubu’s Independence Day speech, Melaye noted that more than 1,000 Nigerians were currently being held by terrorists in different forests across the country.
He also claimed that farmers were unable to access their farmlands due to insecurity, arguing that the issue should have been given greater attention in the President’s address.
The ex-Kogi State governorship candidate said, “President Tinubu omitted the most critical issue of insecurity in his Independence Day broadcast, mentioning insecurity only once, when over 1,000 Nigerians are in the hands of their abductors as we speak.”
“Farmers cannot go to farms. Innocent souls being killed on a daily basis. It is a pity. It is a shame.”
