CAA 2025 Champs: Coaches express dissatisfaction with paltry sum after three weeks in camp
Nigerian coaches that participated in the CAA U-18/U-20 Championships in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have expressed dissatisfaction with the payment of N50,000, which they consider inadequate after dedicating over three weeks to the competition.
Some coaches have yet to receive payment, further exacerbating their frustration. They argue that, given the international nature of the event, compensation should be provided in dollars or the naira equivalent, as is customary in similar competitions.
The coaches feel undervalued and disrespected by the meager payment. Sadly, some coaches are stranded in Abeokuta, unable to return home due to insufficient funds, while others have incurred significant travel expenses.
Curiously, they were not provided with suitable attire for the championships, unlike the kits they had previously received.
In response to the situation, the Athletics Federation’s head coach urged the coaches to remain patient, assuring them that an agreement had been reached with the National Sports Commission to provide a payment of N200,000. The coaches can expect to receive the payment before the end of the week
