Nigerian Afrobeats star Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has said his long-time lead drummer and music director, Emmanuel Abiola-Jacobs (aka Manny), wouldn’t have met his wife if he had left secular music.

The Grammy-winning artist made the assertion over the weekend while speaking at Manny’s wedding.

According to Burna Boy, the drummer wanted to quit secular music and return to gospel music at one point, but ultimately stayed with his band, The Outsiders.

The Last Last hitmaker went on to joke that had Manny quit, he would be in church “clapping hands and praising the sky” instead of enjoying the “good life” he is living right now.

Addressing guests at the event, Burna Boy said: “It’s the little things that piss me off. Have you asked them how they met? You all are just eating and drinking.

“Manny, you said you wanted to dump music and go back to Jesus and Christianity? If you had quit music, would you and your wife have met? I give myself credit because this wedding would not have happened if you had given up music and gone to church clapping and praising the sky,” he said.

Manny has been with Burna Boy as his drummer and music director for approximately seven years, having joined his touring band in 2019.
