Prof Yusuf Usman, former executive secretary, National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, has blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for not addressing the growing insecurity confronting the north in his New Year speech. He said the speech was not specific on how to rescue those still under the captivity of bandits.
Reacting to Buhari’s speech in an interview with AIT Kakaaki morning show, Prof. Usman said 11 local governments in Kasitna State is under the control of criminals and bandits.
“People are no longer safe in the north. Our women are being killed and raped on a daily basis. Our people can’t go to their farms again because of this criminals and Mr President is busy giving us a generic statement on the issues.
“His speech failed to address the issues in the north where bandits and Boko Haram are having a field day. The President need to tell us specific steps he is taking to address the challenges we are facing.
“Before this administration I can travel from Abuja to Kasitna but today you cannot do that because of insecurity. Becoming Internally Displaced Persons, IDP in Abuja will not solve the insecurity challenges confronting the country,” he said.
The ex-NHIS boss blamed bad governance and corruption for the insecurity in the country.
He said President Buhari failed in his New Year broadcast to promise that his administration would tackle the insecurity confronting the country.
