The vibes on social media to the declaration of former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to run for the presidency, is negative.

Tinubu announced on Monday, January 10, that he has notified President Muhammadu Buhari of his intention to contest the 2023 election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu’s declaration to contest for the highest office in Nigeria, was rejected by Nigerians on social media, especially Twitter, where he faithfully complied with Buhari’s ban of the use of the app in the country.

@theprincelyx says: “Imagine wasting 8 years under a Buhari Presidency and another 8 under a Tinubu Presidency. That’s a whole lifetime wasted. That’s millions displaced. Hundred thousands dead. Oh God please no!.”

Former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili, reacted to Tinubu’s declaration on her twitter handle @obyzeks, saying: “It is citizens that have the power to collectively tell the likes of Mr Bola Tinubu that the season of lowest common denominator of political leaders doing “turn-by-turn” incompetent governance of Nigeria is over. The question is, “are citizens ready to collectively do so?”

@firstladyship said: “Tinubu should have bowed out when the ovation was loudest. Pride comes before a heavy fall. Kings come & go. Kingdoms rise & fall, but the people always prevail. Assent to the Electoral Act (Amendment Bill) or not, Nigerians shall prevail. This I know. Ready your PVCs, & fight!!”

@ayemojubar also said: “So Tinubu even has the confidence to say he’ll build on Buhari’s achievements. Is that not a red flag for those that could see?”

@henryshield asked: “So my dear Tinubuists, will you be campaigning for Tinubu on Twitter with VPN or what?”

Reno Omokri, an ex-aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan on social media, tweeting via his handle, @renoomokri says he would respond to Tinubu’s declaration in due time. “I have been inundated with calls to react to Tinubu’s Presidential declaration. Well, I dont react. I respond at a time and date of my choosing. And when I’m ready, I will talk on why a man involved in the #LekkiMassacre of peaceful #EndSARS protesters is not fit to be President!”
