Arsenal have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to six points after narrowly defeating visiting Hull City 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners were frustrated for much of the match and had to wait for the second half before eventually finding a breakthrough.

Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard reacted quickest to slot home a rebound in the 72nd minute, after Noni Madueke’s shot had been saved by Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Mikel Arteta’s side almost had a second when Madueke went through late on, but the winger was tackled by Tzolakis only for the ball to ricochet off Hull’s Nobel Mendy and then be cleared off the line by Brooke Norton-Cuffy.

With the win, they have now gathered 27 points from ten games and are six points above their nearest rivals, Manchester City, who travel to the City Ground on the same day to face Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal’s six-point lead at the top of the table could, however, be cut back to three points if Enzo Maresca’s men triumph over their hosts.
